Hop aboard the “Gemma von Arth” and chug across the water to our little island. From there, you’ll have a clear view of the Rigi, the Grosser Mythen, and the Kleiner Mythen.
A Protected Natural Paradise
The entire Lake Lauerz, including its precious island of Schwanau, is under strict nature conservation. At this place of power, time moves at a different pace.
The island is a haven for numerous rare insects, reptiles, mammals, and birds. Fluttering red admiral butterflies, the soft calls of the shy tawny owl, and the iridescent plumage of the kingfisher—you can experience all of this up close here. Various protected plant species also thrive in this little natural paradise.

Ferry «Gemma von Arth»
The “Gemma von Arth” is the heart and soul of our company, gently carrying you to the island of Schwanau. Equipped with solar panels, it glides almost silently across the water’s surface.
The short crossing costs only CHF 2.00 per person; children 14 and under travel for free.
Important note: If wind speeds exceed 15km/h, the Gemma must remain in the harbor in accordance with cantonal regulations. In that case, it’s time for Plan B: How about a walk along the lakefront?
